Hamiltons Courtyard bar and Bistro is on Campbell Street and next but one to the Police Station. Because of it's exact location on the Street, it is farly easy to miss it if your a visitor to the town. It is also almost next door to the Stonehouse bar which is usally noisier and brighter painted, thus attracts your attention more. The Courtyard used to be one of these pubs which was frequented by the local yob's and gained a bad reputation as a result. However, it was taken over in the late 90s by a landlord who has ran a few very successful bars in the town and he totally turned the place around. A whole new bar was installed along with a totally new floor and the addition of a bistro upstairs. The pub has since changed hands again but the new crowd of regulars have remained. Because of the pubs proximity to the Police Station, many of the regulars are members of the force or civilian staff. This means some interesting stories can be heard there in the evenings. The bar area is quite small and can get a bit cramped at the bar even though there are seats available. Everyone seems to want to stand at the bar. The bar decor has remained unchanged since it's late 90s refit. It is a very bright bar in light teak with carved wood and mirrored backbar which is very well lit. The Gents toilet is spotless and extremly bright. You need sunglasses to go through there.
